Maria Jones is a lifelong Ward 5 resident, public school parent, and small business owner. After 15 years running a neighborhood bookstore and serving on the local school council, she decided it was time to bring that same dedication to City Hall.
Maria holds a B.A. in Public Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.Ed. from DePaul University. She spent eight years as a community organizer before opening her bookstore in 2012.
Our ward deserves leadership that shows up — at every school board meeting, every block club, every community forum. I'm running because Ward 5 families need someone who will fight for fully-funded schools, affordable housing, and streets safe enough for our kids to walk to school.
Every neighborhood deserves to feel safe. I'll push for community policing, better street lighting, and violence prevention programs that address root causes.
Ward 5 families are being priced out. I'll fight for rent stabilization, inclusionary zoning, and community land trusts to keep our neighborhoods affordable.
Our children deserve world-class schools. I'll advocate for full state funding, after-school programs, and mental health support in every school.
From potholes to public transit, our infrastructure needs investment. I'll fight for road repairs, expanded bus routes, and accessible sidewalks for everyone.
